Soren Hjorth – Graphic Designer

Soren started in the graphics industry in Denmark as a 17-year old apprentice on hot metal presses. He then found work producing magazines, brochures and posters and his talents did not go unnoticed. He soon landed a job in a leading studio in Copenhagen.

The studio morphed into a full advertising agency which Soren was asked to join. This was in the early 1980s, the pre-computer era. Another opportunity arose to join a group of journalists and a photographer in a media and design agency. This was Soren’s first experience of desktop publishing – he was working on an Atari computer with Calamus DTP software.

From here Soren freelanced from a studio in the centre of Denmark’s capital in the early ‘90s. A little later, love and the desire to start a family led Soren to move to Australia in 1993. On arrival in the Northern Rivers, he got in touch with graphic artist Jeni Binns and Phil Goodrich, and Graphiti Design was born, launching in 1994.

Since that time Soren has built an enviable reputation as an innovative designer and when he’s not playing at GD Studio, he’s coaching women’s soccer in Lismore and enjoying time with his family.
